Job Title: Processing Archivist
Salary: $20 – 25 hourly
Work Schedule: part-time, flexible schedule, up to 20 hours per week
The Ted Stevens Foundation in Anchorage, Alaska is hiring part-time Processing Archivists to assist in the arrangement and description of the Ted Stevens Collection. The Processing Archivist reports to the Head Archivist and will: arrange and describe archival materials; maintain archival catalog entries; digitize historical materials; and assist with special projects, including research and social media related ones.
Responsibilities:
- Arrange and describe mainly paper-based congressional archive collection
- Update and maintain internal archival collections’ databases and legacy catalog records
- Digitize analog paper materials and data enter appropriate metadata for digital files
- Assist with reference projects
- Follow established office policies and procedures
- Follow national cataloging and archival processing standards
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to type at 50+ wpm
- Computer skills, including experience using Windows Operating System and Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to use office equipment such as a scanner and copier
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 50 pounds
Preferred Knowledge and Experience:
- Experience arranging and describing archival collections
- Knowledge of Alaska history
- Awareness and understanding of archival terms and practices such as: More Product, Less Process (MPLP) processing
- Knowledge of digital preservation best practices and standards
- Prior work experience in archives and with analog paper records
- Prior work experience with digitized and born-digital materials
- Prior work experience or knowledge of congressional records
- Experience working with business-related social media accounts and marketing
