Board Member

Hugh Ashlock is the owner of the Dimond Center in Anchorage. Hugh plays a vital role in the Anchorage Community and serves with many boards and organizations.


Sid Ashworth
Board Member

Sid Ashworth recently retired as corporate vice president of government relations for Northrop Grumman Corporation, a leader in global security. Ashworth earned a master’s degree in business administration from Campbell University and a bachelor’s degree in management from the University of Maryland.
She is the recipient of the Department of Defense Medal for Outstanding Public Service, Secretary of the Navy Medal for Distinguished Public Service, Department of the Army Meritorious Civilian Service Award and the National Guard Major General G.V. “Sonny Montgomery” Award. Ashworth serves on the Executive Committee of the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) and as a member of the Advisory Council of the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments (CSBA). She also serves on the Board of the National Military Family Association and as a Trustee of the U.S. Air Force Academy Falcon Foundation. She is a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).

Bridget Baker
Board Member

Bridget Baker is the president of Baker Media Inc., an entertainment and media consultancy. Prior to Baker Media, she spent over 20 years at NBCUNIVERSAL leading its $4.5 billion content distribution business. Bridget began her career as a legislative assistant to Senator Stevens in Washington, D.C. after receiving her B.A. in Political Studies from Pitzer College. Raised in Southeast Alaska, Bridget currently serves as a director on the boards of GCI and the Cable Center, and as a trustee of her alma mater.


Lily Stevens-Becker
Board Member

Lily is the youngest of Senator Stevens’ 6 children. Lily is an attorney at Orrick, Herrington and Sutcliffe in San Francisco.


Svend Brandt-Erichsen
Board Member

Svend is partner of the Seattle office of Nossaman LLP, a firm focused on energy and environmental law. He previously served as a Regional Administrator for the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, and was as a legislative assistant and legislative director for Senator Stevens from 1985-1991.

Wally Burnett
Board Member

Raised in Fairbanks, Wally is currently a partner at Capitol Strategies in Washington, DC. He worked with Senator Stevens for several years as the Staff Director for the Transportation and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee.


Bill Canfield
Board Member

Bill served as a committee staffer on the Senate Ethics Committee during the Senator’s tenure as Chairman. He concluded his congressional career on the Senate Rules Committee when Senator Stevens was the Ranking Republican. He currently practices law in Washington, D.C.

Steve Cortese
Board Member

Before entering the private sector, Steve had an extensive career on Capitol Hill. From 1986 to 2003, he worked as a professional staff member of the Defense Subcommittee of the Senate Appropriations Committee, which is responsible for oversight and funding of the Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community. During his tenure, Steve served as Staff Director for the Defense Subcommittee and the full Appropriations Committee, working closely with the House and Senate leadership and the Executive Branch.
Steve is a graduate of the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Foreign Service.

Margy Johnson”
Board Member

Margy has served the state of Alaska in both the private and public sectors, including three terms as Mayor of Cordova. The 2013 “Alaskan of the Year” and Vice President of the Alaska Dispatch, Margy is a longtime Alaskan who worked with Senator Stevens for over 30 years.


Andrew Lundquist
Board Member

Raised in Fairbanks, Andrew began his career as a legislative assistant for Senator Stevens, eventually becoming Staff Director for the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. After serving as Director for the White House National Energy Policy Development Group, Andrew held several leadership roles in the Energy and Natural Resources sector prior to becoming the current Senior Vice President for Government Affairs at ConocoPhillips.


David Monson
Board Member

David is the owner of Trail Breaker Kennel, an entrepreneur and a friend of the Stevens family. In addition to his work in the fishing industry, as an advocate for Native Alaskans, and as the winner of the Yukon Quest sled dog race, David established the Susan Butcher Cancer Center at Providence Hospital in honor of his late wife.

Sean O’Keefe
Board Member

Sean began his career in the United States Senate and rose to become the Staff Director for the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee under Senator Stevens. A former Secretary of the Navy, Administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and Chancellor of Louisiana State University, Sean also served as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Airbus Group, Inc. (formerly EADS North America). He currently serves as University Professor at Syracuse University, and is Chair of its Strategic Management and Leadership program at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs.


Karen Perdue
Board Member

Karen began her career as the Press Secretary for Senator Stevens. She then went on to become an Emmy and Telly award-winning television producer, Associate Vice President of the University of Alaska and former Commissioner of the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services. Karen also served as the President and Chief Executive Officer for the Alaska State Hospital and Nursing Home Association.

Mitch Rose
Board Member

A graduate of East High School, Mitch was raised in Anchorage. He began working for Senator Stevens as his Press Secretary and climbed the ranks to become his Chief of Staff. Following his work with Senator Stevens, Mitch was the Vice President of Government Relations for The Walt Disney Company, and Principal of Mitch Rose Strategic Consulting. Mitch is currently the Senior Vice President of Government Affairs at NBCUniversal.

Born in Wyoming, USA, a former lawyer and economist, now an entrepreneur and investor with over 30 years experience in the fields of cable, telephony, broadband, satellite and wireless technologies. Co-founder of UIH, better known as Liberty Global Inc. today. Mark specialises in managing business development, acquisitions, finance and investments.

Chris Swalling
Board Member

Chris Swalling founded Swalling & Associates in 1991. Prior to establishing his own practice, Mr. Swalling was a partner in the Anchorage firm Ernst & Young. He has provided accounting services in Alaska since 1971. Mr. Swalling is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and is a life-long resident of Alaska. He is active in both professional and community service organizations, and serves on the Board of Directors for Northrim Bank, Providence Health and Services, the Anchorage Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Anchorage Museum Foundation and the Alaska Pacific University Foundation, among others.


Tara Sweeney
Board Member

Tara Sweeney, from Utqiaġvik, grew up in rural Alaska. She has spent her professional career working to empower Native organizations and communities through advocacy at all levels of government, with a strong focus on the federal process.
Tara has served in leadership positions on numerous business and nonprofit boards at the state, national and international levels, including Assistant Secretary of Indian Affairs within the Department of the Interior from 2018 to 2021, where she oversaw the administration of services for American Indians and Alaska Natives through the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Bureau Indian Education, Bureau of Trust Fund Administration, and the independent offices of Indian Gaming, Indian Energy and Economic Development, and Self-Governance. She has also served as chair of the Arctic Economic Council, a trustee of the Ted Stevens Foundation, and co-chair of the Alaska Federation of Natives.

Executive Director

Karina is currently the Executive Director of the Ted Stevens Foundation. A second generation Alaskan, Karina began her career as a high school intern for Senator Stevens. After graduating from law school, Karina served as Legislative Director and Deputy Chief of Staff for Senator Stevens from 2002-2009.

Robin Phillips
Administrative Director

Robin was born in Anchorage and raised in Homer. She received a degree in communications from the University of Colorado. She grew up in a political family, and was a high school intern for the Senator. Her admiration for the Senator was what prompted her to join our team.

Head Archivist

Jolene is the Head Archivist at the Foundation. She received a BA in History from the University of Alaska Anchorage and her Masters in Library and Information Science from the University of Washington. She is also a Certified Archivist through the Academy of Certified Archivists.

Third generation Montanan from Helena and first generation Alaskan with over 20 years of experience as an archivist including descriptive work for the University of Alaska Anchorage and SummitDay Media. Avid cyclist, media history buff, and alumni of the Montana State University (BA and MA in History) and the archives program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Erik Hill
Photo Archivist

Erik comes to the Ted Stevens Foundation following more than three decades of photojournalism work in Alaska. On one memorable assignment, Erik spent a week trying to keep up with Stevens while documenting the Senator’s life in Washington, D.C.
Erik’s work at the Foundation combines his interests of photography, history and archiving.
